“Akwaaba”: Social media explodes with joy as Williams brothers arrive in Ghana

Football fans in Ghana have been left drooling following the arrival of the Williams brothers, Iñaki and Nico. The Athletic Bilbao pair touched down in Ghana on Tuesday, June 7, fuelling rumours of their potential nationality switch.

Multiple reports in the local media landscape have reported the itinerary of the Spain-born duo which includes holding a meeting with the Ghana Football Association to complete their switch from Spain to Ghana

Born to Ghanaian parents, Iñaki Williams and his younger sibling are eligible to play for Spain, however, it appears the duo have had a change of heart ahead of the World Cup.

And the prospect of having the talented duo on the Black Stars team has put football-loving fans in the country into a state of unbridled joy. Since Ghana’s qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the football federation has aggressively pursued foreign-born Ghanaian internationals in order to beef up the team for the Mundial.

Brighton fullback Tariq Lamptey has reportedly finalized his switch from England to Ghana with that of Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, Eddie Nketiah and the Williams brothers on the horizon.
